The Wonderment of Authors and Illustrators
Michael Kusugak
Earlier this school year, Inuit author Michael Kusugak was a guest speaker in our school library. He grew up in Nunavut and shared many stories about his life and culture growing up near the Arctic Circle. We own many of his books in our library including: My Arctic 1,2,3 , A Promise is a Promise (co-authored by Robert Munsch), and Baseball Bats for Christmas.

Roy Henry Vickers
Roy Henry Vickers is a famous First Nations’ artist, author, and popular keynote speaker. His niece and nephew previously attended Eagle View Elementary School. We have been studying Roy’s unique artistic style and samples of student interpretations have been displayed across from the library, at the Coal Harbour Spring into the Arts Festival, and will soon be adorning the walls at the School Board Office. You can check out his website in the Authors’ websites link.

Susan Aglukark
Although she is not an author or illustrator yet, famous Canadian Susan Aglukark performed and was an inspirational keynote speaker at the Port Hardy civic center in March 2007. She indicated that one of her future goals is to write children’s stories. After her performance Susan posed for a few pictures with Kimberley and Robyn.
